We live in a prevailing world of social-media. There are some wonderful benefits to social-media: keeping in touch with long-time friends, getting your brand out there, even just social-media intended for a good laugh. With the good, however, always comes the bad. There are some cringe-worthy posts out there that make you want to run and hide…far far away from the internet.

We’ve compiled a list of the Dos and the Don’ts for posting online and consider these best practices good advice for anyone on social media.

  1. Do post pictures regularly
  2. Don’t feel the need to post excessively throughout the day
  3. Do proofread before posting
  4. Don’t include profanity in your posts
  5. Do keep it classy
  6. Don’t post negative comments
  7. Do spread positivity and compliment others
  8. Don’t use social-media to insult others, if you have something bad to say keep it off the internet
  9. Do remember whatever you post will be on the internet for the long-run
  10. Don’t feel the need to prove you’re having a great life through social-media
  11. Do enjoy life, and post on social-media if you feel it’s beneficial
  12. Don’t post personal information
  13. Do use social-media to stay connected
  14. Don’t give into comparing yourself to others by followers and likes, that’s not what life is about
  15. Do post what makes you happy
  16. Don’t ever feel obligated to post anything
  17. Do take frequent breaks from social media. Nothing’s worse than trying to have a conversation with someone scrolling through their Instagram feed
  18. Don’t use social media to rant about personal problems, that’s what friends are for
  19. Do respond back to other people’s comments on your posts, it lets   them know you’ve seen and value what they have to say
  20. Don’t give into social media drama, if you see it stay clear, there is no need to get yourself involved
